CFL History

The CFL was started in 2004. Six teams were formed thru a family argument over who could pick the most winning teams. The 2004 season saw a scoring system that only granted a win if you won the most picks overall. Bob Carroll was elected interim commissioner for the inaugural season, with his dog, Butchidog serving as vice commissioner. The inaugural season winner was Frankie's Finneans.

After the 2004 season, long term elections were held. Bob Carroll was installed as commissioner and Dr. Kasey Carroll as vice commissioner, Butchidog was appointed as special counsel to the league. A new scoring system and playoffs were voted into the league. Also new to the CFL was expansion. The league grew to 8 teams with the addition of Darrell Stinger (Darrell's Devils) and Meaghan Carroll/Jeremy Boyce (Kimchee w/White Rice). All of the original teams remain.

In 2005, the league instituted a league trophy, which was named the Friel-McGowan trophy after the Carroll's fore fathers. The trophy was bought and donated to the league by PaPa's Pride owner Frank Carroll. The inaugural winner of the Friel-McGowan trophy was the Venice Vengence. The trophy was presented to Vengence team owner Bob Carroll at the 2006 CFL team owners meeting. The trophy was engraved with the names of the Vengence and also the 2005 CFL champs Frankies Finneans. The trophy will be kept by the current champ for the winning year and passed on to the next years champ at the team owners meeting.

The 2006 season brought about a change. With the passing of long time General Counsel Butchidog just before the season start, the name of the championship game name was changed from the Carroll Bowl to the "Butchidog Bowl". The Butchidog bowl was won by the defending champion Venice Vengence, in a 3-1 victory over Kasey's Kraze. Skankcat was also appointed General Counsel, to fill out Butchidog's term.

In 2007, the CFL has expanded once again, welcoming the Bradenton Bris, headed by David Abel. Elections were once again held, seeing Commissioner Bob Carroll and Vice Commissioner Dr. Kasey Carroll, relected to their posts for the next three years. Skankcat retained the office of General Counsel, and Sharon Carroll was appointed CFL Treasurer. Kimchee w/White Rice changed the team name to Meaghan's Madness. In a historic win, Acme Packers became the first married in Carroll to win the CFL Championship Butchidog Bowl.

2008 saw the end of longtime team, as Meaghans Madness (formerlyKimchee w/White Rice) suspended it's operation, but also saw expansion once more in the addition of the Odessa Oilers, owned by Benny Henderson Jr. The Oilers promise to bring the level of competion to a much higher level. The expansion Odessa Oilers made CFL history by being the first non-Carroll to win the McGowan-Friel Trophy.

2009 brought three more additions to the CFL as Charles Kenniff (Sofa Kings), legendary sports radio host Tommy Gilbert (Bugsy's Mongrels) and Tampa Bay Storm QB Brett Dietz (Pacquiao's Punishers) entered the league as team owners. This gave the CFL a chance to break into two divisions and set a whole new playoff system up. The 2009 season also saw the league take over and deactivate a team for the first time. The Bradenton Bris went 0-66 for the season, refusing to take part in the league. By the league rules, the Bris team was taken over by the league and dissolved.  The CFL also lost a true pioneer when CFL General Counsel Skankcat passed away at age 17.

The season of 2011 was full of the usual excitement. The season culminated with the longest post season Butchie Dog Bowl in league history. In the end, Darrell's Devile emerged victorious. The Devils humbly destroyed the entire league throughout the regular season play. His winning of the the Mc Gowan-Friel cup came as no surprise to most.

In the summer of 2011,  the Carroll family went through the most traumatic event they have ever faced. We lost our "glue". We lost an incredible son, incredible brother, incredible uncle, incredible man, incredible friend. On June 18, 2011, Bobby "Scooter" Carroll passed away suddenly and tragically. Although devastated and paralyzed by the loss, Iwe decided that Bobby would want this league, something he poured so much energy and passion into, to go on. Bobby built this league, the website and the passionate battles. Vice Commissioner Kasey Carroll decided to step up to the Commissioner position and try her best to keep the league going. There may be a lot of kinks to work out the first couple of seasons, but Kasey vowed to do her best to keep the league strong. Kasey idolized her brother. He will always be her hero. He meant the world to Kasey and her kids. Kasey asked her brother, Frankie, to step into the role of Vice Commissioner. She did not move Sharon Carroll, owner of the Sunny Philadels, to move into the position as she was subject of 2 separate and serious investigations by the league over the previous 2 seasons. She felt that would hurt her credibility with the league. The Bradenton Bris and Kajin Kimchee owners were approached by Kasey and agreed to return to the league, out of respoect and loyalty to Bobby. In a surprise move, the owner of Dietz Island, Brett Dietz, decided to change his team name back to Pacquiaos Punisher's in honor of Bobby and his favorite boxer.

The winner of the CFL Season VIII was Sunnie Friel Carroll and her team the Sunnie's Philadels. We had a wonderful season. It was a difficult journey for all of the teams. The CFL was enriched by the newest teams, the BoSco Ballers and the Brass Balls Tripods. Although it was very painful to have the CFL without having Bobby as a part of it, it was the help and support of family and friends of the CFL that helped our family start the journey of healing and mourning Bobby's passing.

We are now entering the ninth season of the CFL. Originally, we had thought the BoSco Ballers would be taking a sabbatical. The league was aware the Kajun Kimchee and the Pacquiao's Punishers would be taking a sabbatical for a season. Life events prevented these teams from being able to commit to the current season. The CFL was informed by Scott Aumiller, owner of the BoSco Ballers, that his team had every intention of returning for Season IX.
